Mangroves
In the days before Bagan Lalang achieved famed as a tourist beachside destination, mangrove trees grew abundantly along the coastal fringes and rivermouths, providing a rich habitat for fish, birds and mammals. Today, much of the natural vegetation has been destroyed by civil development works, including river widening for flood prevention. Some mangrove reforestation projects occur from time to time, but it is certain that some original wildlife and botanical species have been extinguished - never to return. Still, patches of mangrove swamps are still present at both ends of the beach. Visitors can charter a boat from local operators for a river cruise or fishing.
